This is how we swim

Vancouver, BC - June 28, 2012 - Toronto songstress Lisa Bozikovic returns this summer with a follow-up to her introspective debut, Lost August. With her "evocative turns of phrase [and] nuanced delivery" (CBC), Bozikovic explores the sensual and symbolic transformations of loss, framed against the movements of bodies and water in her latest offering, This is How We Swim, out on Shuffling Feet Records on August 28th.

Produced by veteran Toronto musicians Sandro Perri and engineered by Heather Kirby (Ohbijou) the songs of This is How We Swim ebb and flow with quietly ornate moments - a riot of strings here, a whimsical Moog solo there. Supported by Sandro Perri and band (as well as members of Ohbijou, Timbre Timber and Fond of Tigers) her skilled piano and guitar arrangements intertwine seamlessly with playful synth lines, experimental percussion, and orchestral swells that never overwhelm the intimacy of her songwriting or compete with the arresting power of her voice. With This is How We Swim, Bozikovic draws us into a sonic dream world that deepens as it progresses, tumbling with the urgency of a waterfall, and always with a thrill of elemental power at its core.

Lisa Bozikovic's debut album Lost August caught the attention of a variety of critics upon its release in late 2009. Herohill deemed her "a talented multi-instrumentalist (who) uses each sound and texture to weave a beautiful, perfectly flowing tapestry" and she was named one of the CBC's "10 Artists to Watch in 2010." She traveled across Canada opening for Ohbijou, who also acted as her supporting band, playing festivals such as Sappyfest and Festival Folk du Quebec. In April 2012, she collaborated with Stevie Jackson (of Belle and Sebastian) on the arrangements for the musical, Paper Laced With Gold (written by Maggie MacDonald/ Stevie Jackson). Lisa also played keys and sang in the production, which premiered at Harbourfront Centre as part of the HATCH series.

My new record: This is How We Swim!

May 08, 2012

My sophomore record is done! I will be releasing it in the early fall... I wrote most of the songs while living on Toronto Island last spring, and recorded soon after with Sandro Perri (co production) and Heather Kirby (engineering)...... with an all star supporting cast of Toronto talent... MORE DETAILS TO COME SOON.

Paper Laced with Gold, The Mystical Flutes, and Arts Camp for Grown Ups!

May 08, 2012

I am just emerging from the experience of being IN A MUSICAL called Paper Laced with Gold, written by the amazing Maggie Macdonald (who was in The Hidden Cameras, Republic of Safety, and also authored Kill The Robot) and Stevie Jackson (from the band Belle and Sebastian). The performance was part of the HATCH series at Harbourfront; we were given one week in the theater with tech crew to build the set and put the whole thing together, and then there were two performances at the end of it. I helped the cast learn the songs, collaborated on the arrangements.... and for the performance I sang and played keys alongside Stevie (who flew over from Scotland), John Power (The Hidden Cameras), and Katie Sketch (The Organ). We named our musical supporting band "The Mystical Flutes". It was probably one of the best weeks of my life- like arts camp for grown ups! The cast was incredible and I know we will take the show to other venues.... stay tuned.
